According to a report of The Wall Street Journal, users can expect a low priced iPhone by late 2013. The report says that Apple Inc. is all set to make a big shift in its corporate strategy as it plans to develop a lower-end iPhone. It is speculated that Apple is doing so to gain its lost supremacy in the smartphone market.
Apple has started exploring such an inexpensive device where it will offer its flagship mechanism with a different and less-expensive body. As per the published report of the WSJ – “One possibility under consideration is lowering the cost of the device by using a different shell made of polycarbonate plastic; in contrast, the iPhone 5 currently has aluminum housing. Many other parts could remain the same or be recycled from older iPhone models”
The report also states that “Apple Inc. could still decide to scrap the plan….” which means this rumor can live and die as rumor only. This rumor has started since the time when other smartphones having android OS were available at a much cheaper price. Although the price was less, the facilities these devices offered were hardly different from expensive iPhones. Such price difference facilitated the increment in the customer base of Android enabled devices. So, in present time, many iPhone application development companies are putting more emphasis over utility iPhone apps at comparably lower price.
Keeping in view the analysis published at data.eguan, we can see how Apple Inc. has lost its ground in China. It states that in the third quarter of 2012, Android accounted for 90.1 percent of all smartphone sales in China. Same scenario exists in different parts of the globe. Thus, if Apple executes its plan of having a low-end and economical iPhone, it certainly can give many other smartphones, including Android, a run for their money.
